Mt. Healy, Denali National Park

Adventure beckoned. Almost 13 years ago, my girlfriend and I hiked up the Mt. Healy Overlook trail in Denali National Park. The "summit" was 3,425 ft. My girlfriend was Isty Alexie. We kissed, we hugged, and we took pictures. It was a great day! I looked around at the wilderness and told myself that one day I would climb the mountain that loomed way off in the distance, Mt. Healy (5,716). Well, that day came on 8/31/14. Several years ago I attempted to summit, but was deterred due to low hanging clouds around 4,500 ft. Of course, I was determined to summit and "cross this one off the list." On our recent camping trip to Denali, my wife (Isty Hlasny!) and kids took a bus ride into the park and I donned my running shoes and backpack. Finally, the weather "cooperated" enough to allow me the opportunity to access the ridge and summit. Yes! Thank you, God! My words of advice: Don't ever give up on what you want! Have a vision, set a goal, and make it happen. Amen.
